Debug with live Logcat

Stream logcat straight from the running device, filter it, and drive the app with Home, Back and rotation.

Updated 27 September 20263 min read

Watching someone else's screen recording tells you what happened; logcat tells you why. SpawnDroid streams the device's log buffer while the app runs, so the trace and the screen stay in front of you at the same time.

Open the Live Logcat tab

On an app's page, switch to Live Logcat. Lines appear within a few seconds of the device producing them, newest first.

Filter down to the bug

  • Use the level toggles to hide everything but warnings and errors.
  • Search by tag, message or pid to follow one component.
  • Crash traces are kept together — the stack frames stay attached to the fatal line.

Drive the app while you read

The device controls send Home, Back, Recents, Power, volume and rotation to the running app. Combine them with logcat to reproduce a crash: press Back, watch the error appear.
